I hope to build a hut in the small woodland I own in West Lothian. Does anybody have experience of applying for planning permission in West Lothian, and if so, do you have any advice?
Well done on finding a piece of roadside woodland! We're still trying to find somewhere affordable where a hut would be acceptable. Meanwhile, I'm looking at planning applications and decisions, hoping to pick up some ideas. CP64 I think I'm correct in saying your hut was given temporary planning permission. Did the planning authority explain why they made this decision or give any guidance on likelihood of permission being extended?
My planning permission has been granted. It was the first hut application that West Lothian had dealt with, and it only took them about 3 months to process it.
Colin, I'd recommend checking out your local planning department to see if they are offering the free pre-planning service. I'm in D&G where the service was suspended for a while but then returned and they've waived the fees during the pandemic. West Lothian may be similar so check online. Good luck :)

Thanks for your suggestion, but the pre-application service is still suspended. Good to hear that D&G have reopened, so perhaps WL will be back soon.
