I have a hut which is one of 6 new huts at our site on the Solway Coast in Dumfries and Galloway. My brother and I own a 670 acre dairy farm near the village of Auchencairn. There was a hut site with 5 huts in the 50s and only one of the original huts remains. After the Hutters Rally in Kirkcaldy in 2016 I decided that a new site was a possibility and now in early 2020 we are almost a new hut community with hutters from Lancaster, Carlisle, Dumfries, Gatehouse, Castle-Douglas and Kirkcudbright and me(my huts about 200 metresfrom my house)
I will put up more shortly about the cost of building this hut and the process and costs of settig up the hut site
And the front of the hut
Looks quite embedded in its landscape already!
It would be good to have a running tally of new huts erected in the spirit of the Act somewhere on your website - either in this thread or in a higher profile location. This might reassure folk that some huts are in fact going up, but also highlight the challenge of the thousand target, and how much has to be done to change the culture towards hutting - in planning and elsewhere. You could have the number also presented as a (currently rather empty) bar-chart like fund-raisers have.
I'd like to see some more facts and figures, too. I did see someone somewhere compiling a list of current planning applications but can't remember where I saw it! I'm in the early stages of preparing to submit our planning application for 4 huts at our project not all that far from Lee's
Could start a new post with planning application reference numbers
